Theater Wit has embarked on our most ambitious production to date: the Midwest premiere of Prayer for the French Republic by Joshua Harmon, co-produced with Northlight Theatre. This critically acclaimed play—which debuted on Broadway in 2023—explores the profound and often painful intersections of faith, family, culture, and country — and what it means to be Jewish in the 21st century.
In order to foster real-time dialogue on the themes of this play, the CityTalk series will feature presentations and discussion by leading scholars, artists and thought leaders, acting as a springboard for a space as nuanced and thoughtful as the play itself. Topics will span antisemitism, Jewish cultural history and identity, and present a dramaturgical perspective on Judaism abroad, fostering deeper understanding of how historical narratives inform contemporary experiences.
In a moment when such discussions are more critical than ever, CityTalk invites everyone to take part—bringing curiosity, courage and compassion to the table as we explore how the stories of our past shape the possibilities of our future.
Lecture dates and times are listed on calendar, full series information at https://citytalkchicago.org
